Tour Stop #18: Lee Building

Lee Building | 536 Third Street

In April 2019, NewTown entered into a joint venture partnership with Kunj Construction to purchase and rehab the historic Lee Building. The Lee Building was built in 1917 and was last home to Karsten-Denson Hardware until the store relocated to Ingleside Village in 2008. Once complete, the building’s original character will remain. However, its renewed function will be geared toward curbing the demand for residential loft units. This project will deliver 31 lofts and 3 storefronts to the market, inching NewTown Macon closer to our 5-year strategic plan goal of having 1000 completed lofts units by 2022.

Did you know that NewTown offers free coaching and advice for people interested in developing downtown property? We also are able to invest money through loans, like the $1.15 million that made this project possible, to improve downtown real estate. NewTown has loaned over $16 million to real estate projects now worth nearly $55 million. Additionally, this loan program has added 280 lofts to downtown!
