Everything You Need To Do In Downtown Macon This Weekend

It’s finally beginning to feel like spring and it's time to enjoy the weather in downtown Macon! Head down this weekend for First Friday, Cinco de Mayo, the Cherry Street Pop Up Plaza, and Free Comic Book Day. If the events aren’t enough to get you downtown, the restaurants and retail shops should do the trick. Try our newest eateries like Oliver’s Corner Bistro, La Bella Morelia, and Little India. Did we mention there’s always live music to heard in downtown Macon? The Hummingbird, Hargray Capitol Theatre, Crazy Bull, and Thirsty Turtle host concerts weekly. Cross your fingers for blue skies and sunshine!

Friday May 4: ENJOY EVERYTHING DOWNTOWN MACON HAS TO OFFER
First Friday is your ticket to downtown Macon! With art gallery openings, endless dining options, and concerts galore, First Friday has something for everyone in the family. Time: 5:00pm-2:00am

Friday-Saturday May 4-5: REIMAGINE CHERRY STREET PLAZA
Cherry Street (Between MLK Jr Blvd and Fifth Street)
Join NewTown Macon and Main Street Macon as Cherry Street Plaza is brought to life with live entertainment and lawn games. Bring the kids to splash around after dinner on First Friday! On Saturday the Pop Up Plaza continues with a yoga class led by Sparks Yoga at 9:00am and a hip hop cardio class at 10:00am led by Todd “T Luv” Davis. Bring your pooch to the Puppy Brunch where food and drink will be available for purchase. Dogs and kids wearing their best superhero costume will be entered into a contest to win a gift card. Enjoy a movie screening at 8:00pm featuring Wonder Woman in celebration of Free Comic Book Day! Cost: Free

Friday-Sunday May 4-6: MAY THE 4TH BE WITH YOU
Reboot Retrocade & Bar
Are you on the Light Side of the Force or the Dark Side? Enjoy Star Wars inspired cocktails and trivia and compete in Reboot’s costume contest on Friday night. Return on Saturday night for a silent disco party with a Star Wars themed set! Be sure to return on Sunday for a Star Wars movie marathon. Guests must 21 to enter Reboot after 6:00PM. Cost: Free

Friday-Sunday May 4-6: STROLL THROUGH HISTORIC GARDENS
InTown Neighborhood Enchanting gardens and historic home interiors await your discovery during the Spring Stroll of Macon Houses and Gardens. Named one of the Top 20 events in the Southeast by the Southeast Tourism Society, this premier house and garden event, now in its 25th year, will be hosted by the Hay House.

Saturday May 5: HIT UP THE CINCO DE MAYO BLOCK PARTY

Head over to Second Street for the Cinco De Mayo Block Party hosted by El Camino and the Hargray Capitol Theatre. This block party features face paintings, a dunking booth, and piñatas of course! Feast on tacos by El Camino and enjoy live entertainment by DJ Charles Davis, Magnolia Moon and Fooligans. Time: 11AM-11PM Cost: Free

Saturday May 5: CELEBRATE FREE COMIC BOOK DAY

It’s a comic book nerd’s favorite day! Get to Comics Plus early to nab your free comic book and exclusive items! Stay awhile to enjoy a coloring contest, a LEGO building contest, gaming tournaments, and raffles sponsored by local charities. Time: 12PM-6PM Cost: Free

Sunday May 6: BRUNCH WITH FRIENDS
Enjoy all your brunch favorites and wash it all down with bottomless mimosas at Bearfoot Tavern and Ladda Bistro or grab a bloody mary at Dovetail or Parish on Cherry Street. If it’s a nice day we recommend sitting on the patio at Bearfoot Tavern, Ladda Bistro, or Parish on Cherry Street.

Sunday May 6: RELAX, DON’T DO IT!
Ocmulgee Heritage Trail
Instead of spending a quiet Sunday at home, enjoy the weather and go for a walk along the Ocmulgee Heritage Trail. Rent a Zagster bike from the Spring Street Landing of the trail or row down the Ocmulgee River with kayaks and canoes for rent by Ocmulgee Outdoor Expeditions.

Sunday May 6: CHEERS TO ONE YEAR
Piedmont Brewery & Kitchen
Join Piedmont Brewery & Kitchen as they celebrate a year of being open for business in downtown Macon. As a way of giving back to the community that supports them, they’ll be smoking a whole hog, slinging half priced beers and will have live entertainment by local musicians.
